Uses for Molybdenum
One of the hottest commodities in this Bull resource market is molybdenum, trading regularly over $30 a pound. But it begs the question, "what are the uses for Molybdenum?"
There are a number of applications for this little know commodity, but the primary use for molybdenum is as an alloy in steel and stainless steel. This constitutes about 60% of the annual molybdenum requirements for the Unites States. Molybdenum is able to withstand extreme temperature fluctuations without significant expansion or softening. In addition, Molybdenum is also used in steels that require high corrosion resistance. It has a lower density and stable market price than tungsten, which it is often used as a substitute.
Molybdenum is also used in industrial applications as a lubricant and anti-corrosion agent.
One of our featured companies is a junior molybdenum exploration play, Pacific Cascade Minerals. For more information check out the report on this molybdenum stock.
